Smart Surfing

Today I worked on Smart Surfing.
I learnt that Voice search only takes the English pronounciation of maori words.
I found it hard to get the weather from the voice search.
I found it easy to do the first 2 activities.
Next time I need to work a bit faster.
I feel like a smart blogger.

Seeking Help

We were learning to take screenshots when something inappropriate pops up on screen. When I  take a screenshot, I need to share it with 3 adults.  It was easy to understand what we should do when something inappropriate comes up. I found it hard to remember everything after we watched the video. I think I am heading up to a smart learner.

Netiquette

We were learning about being netiquette.  I found it easy to show a do and don't about being netiquette. I found it hard to design a background that would suit it. Next time I would add more dos and don'ts about being netiquette. I really enjoyed designing a google drawing about being netiquette. I think I am heading towards being a smart blogger.

Collaborating online

We were learning how to use commenting to collaborate with buddies.
I really enjoyed designing the character.
I found it hard to get it done in time.
It was easy to design the background.
Next time I need to use more comments.

Collaboration is about working with someone to produce something and making decisions together.

Polluted rivers

In my literacy group we have been making posters about polluted rivers. I chose to talk about e.coli in the waipaoa river that is affected by e.coli and other bacteria.

Speech

This is my finished copy of my speech. Our topic was 'How I can contribute to this world and make it a better place.' I was trying to work on my sentence starters, organisation and the types of words I have used. I got lots of feedback and feed forward from the teachers and other pupils. I am sure I have reached my goals for this speech. Plastic Bags Have you ever thought of ditching plastic bags? I have. Ditching plastic bags is a great way to contribute to the world and make it a better place. Plastic bags are 100% nasty to the environment and its wildlife. Maybe today is the day that you could think about how bad they are and maybe you could just give up on them. Critically, every year approximately 500 billion - 1 trillion plastic bags are littered worldwide, that is over 1 million per minute! On average, we use over 200 plastic bags each year and only recycle 1 of them. Then about a sixth of the plastic bags ends up in the ocean! There is no such thing as ‘away,’ when we throw plastic away, it must go somewhere. Surely there are lots of recycling bins around town! Furthermore, Did you know that over 100 million marine animals including sea turtles are killed from floating plastic bags? Turtles love to eat jellyfish but when a plastic bags is floating upside down, the turtle comes along and therefore the turtle dies. If you use reusable bags, you will help prevent more and more sea turtles from dying. I believe that Countdown is doing a really good deed by not allowing people to use plastic bags in their shops. Pak N Save needs to catch up because in my opinion reusable bags might take over the world. Especially when so many people including my family use reusable bags. In fact, in Australia all the supermarkets only allow people to use reusable bags and no plastic bags are permitted to be used in the shops at all! Should all supermarkets in the world only allow customers to use reusable bags? What do you think? In conclusion, every bit of plastic still exists… somewhere. So if you are walking around somewhere, or having a cycle even swimming in the ocean and you notice plastic bags floating around, pick it up and put it in a recycling bin and you are making a big contribution to the world!

spooky writing.

We did writing for a spooky event that happened to us. I wrote about a time when I had a sleepover at my friend's house. I was focusing on using powerful words that describe how I was feeling.

Spooky sleepover

“Good night Selina,” Rebecca whispered. “ I’ll turn the lamp on for some more light.” “OK,” I replied as my heavy eyelids dragged me into a deep sleep. The wind howled in the ray of moonlight. The leaves rustled and bustled against the windowsill.

I faintly gasped and shot up out of bed.
“ Rebecca,” I cooed, “Rebecca,” I cooed again. She just groaned and peered at me, then she drifted off to sleep. “ The light switched off,” I called. Still, there was no answer, just another groan in the darkness. My heart sank, I waited there, engulfed in terror, with my eyes locked open.

Aerodrome- next chapter

LI: To show mood in my writing by having good amounts of description, dialogue & action.
SC: I had good action and description in this piece of writing.
I found it hard to have lots of dialogue in my writing.
I enjoyed learning more about adding emotion and mood into my writing.

 Aerodrome

Astonished, Toad questioned him in mixed emotions, “ don’t you know who I am?”
“I don't actually, who are you?” the pilot replied in question. Puzzled, he frowned.
Toad, not minding him took a stroll towards the plane, dropping a few hundred bucks on the tar seal runway and he took off into the bright blue sky.
He yelled out to them, a simplifying message: “ see ya suckers,” as he jumped on board. Rat raised his eyebrow and scurried over to the pilot, to pat his back. The pilot’s body drooped, a few tears ran down his cheeks and he dropped to the ground.
Up in the air, Toad heard a beep-bla-beep, it freaked him out. It was coming from the petrol sign. Toad’s eyes widened.
Toad stuttered a horrible text. “ I… I… I…”  Rat interrupted a hiss, “ say it already!” “ Oh alright! … I’m sorry!” He sorrowed.
At the blink of an eye, smoke puffed and poofed out of the gas holder. Sparks clicked and as soon as he new it, the plane was going down.
Toad felt a vibration beneath his feet. “ Jump!” boomed Mole. Toad obeyed his suggestion. No matter how much he disliked the pilot, he still asked for help.
“ Where are the parachutes?” Toad croaked. “ There attached to the back of the seat,” answered the pilot, in frustration. Toad hooked the parachutes onto his jacket.
Before he knew it, the plane was tipping.
